About me

My name is Claire Young and I am a registered mental health nurse and an accredited psychotherapist. I have been working in the field of mental health for over 15 years as a registered mental health nurse within the NHS. Alongside my private practice I continue to work part time in the NHS as a Veterans Therapist for Veterans NHS Wales, https://www.veteranswales.co.uk/ offering evidence-based psychological treatment for military veterans, with service related mental health difficulties. Please click on the link above for more information if you think you may be eligible for this service.

I am accredited in two therapies: Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) https://youtu.be/9c_Bv_FBE-c  and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) https://youtu.be/p61eeEyCk3U. I am also trained in Schema Therapy and integrate Polyvagal Theory, Parts Work and Internal Family Systems into the therapy I deliver.

I specialise in working with trauma and psychosis, however I have extensive experience working across all areas of mental health using evidence based psychotherapy.

I am experienced in working with adults, children and adolescents. I am an approved provider with Aviva & AXA health insurance.

I offer individual sessions on a weekly basis. The number of sessions required is dependent upon various factors, this will be discussed with you during the initial assessment appointment.

I have a collaborative and goal oriented approach. Sessions are primarily provided within a private clinic setting or online on a one to one basis, however home visits can be agreed on occasion where there is a clinical need at an additional cost.

Confidentiality - what is said in sessions is confidential (within the limits of professional discretion).

I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO), am GDPR compliant and understand the need for confidentiality, keeping paperless notes in a secured location for 7 years.

How can you be sure a CBT or EMDR therapist is fully qualified to practice?

When looking for a therapist who meets the training standards required to practice cognitive behaviour therapy you should visit the website of the BABCP (British Association of Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies), for EMDR you should visit the website of the EMDR Association UK. Click the image below and search by therapist name or town to ensure they are accredited.
